Kulandai Francis, president of Integrated Village Development Programme (IVDP), a Krishnagiri-based non-Governmental organisation (NGO), was honoured with ‘Baroda Sun Lifetime Achievement Award 2014’ by the Bank of Baroda at its founder’s day function in Mumbai recently.

The Award was constituted in 2005 to recognise the contributions and achievements of eminent persons who have excelled in various fields viz. Arts, science, social service and education.

The Award was conferred on Mr. Francis for his contribution in the field of social service since 1979. It carries a trophy, a citation, and a donation of Rs. 5 lakh to a charitable trust/NGO as per the choice of the awardee.

Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India S.S. Mundra presented the Award to Mr. Francis.

Mr. Francis said that the Award was given to him for his efforts in empowering rural women through various capacity-building activities for the past three decades. Over 9,000 Self-Help Groups were being operated under IVDP, he added.

He donated the Award money to ‘ALERT-INDIA’, a Mumbai-based NGO working for the rehabilitation of people affected with leprosy, in the presence of the BOB officials.
